ASBESTOS TESTING

Asbestos is a carcinogen that can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis and other serious respiratory ailments. Thousands of building materials were manufactured with asbestos including insulation, pipe insulation, floor and ceiling tiles, adhesives, roof shingles, siding, textured ceilings and joint compounds. Over time, these materials degrade or are disturbed and their asbestos fibers are released.

Asbestos monitoring by a certified professional can help homeowners and commercial property owners identify potential risks prior to purchase or renovation.

Most asbestos-related diseases don’t arise until years after exposure. Currently in the US, 12,000 to 15,000 people die each year from asbestos-related diseases, according to the Environmental Working Group. This number continues to increase. The total number of asbestos-related deaths in the United States may exceed 200,000 by the year 2030, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

THE MOST DANGEROUS ASBESTOS FIBERS ARE TOO SMALL TO BE SEEN

Many countries have banned the use of asbestos outright, but several, including the United States, still employ its use. Asbestos is mostly found in older homes and factories, and can be highly dangerous and even deadly if disturbed.

Once inhaled, they lodge in the lungs forever. Our asbestos inspectors are highly trained and certified to conduct asbestos testing in residential and commercial settings.

Are you aware?

Are you aware that any time a building is renovated or demolished, there is a risk of asbestos or lead exposure? Federal and state laws and regulations require building owners to properly assess and manage the potential presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and lead-based paints (LBP) prior to renovation or demolition.

Did you know?

Failure to account for the proper removal of ACM or LBP can result in significant fines and project delays. Without proper planning, asbestos removal can significantly increase project schedules and budgets. Qualtek Testing Group helps organizations determine the potential impacts of ACM or LBP prior to renovations, demolitions, or property purchases.

Qualtek’s inspectors perform surveys/inspections and collect samples of suspect ACM in residential, commercial, industrial, schools, hospitals, and municipal buildings. Qualtek’s services are utilized by a wide variety of local, state, national clients, and government entities. Our asbestos surveys follow the guidelines established under the USEPA Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) program, and as required by USEPA regulation 40 CFR Part 61, National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and New York State’s code rule 56.
